Couture means that your gown is made just for you, exactly to your measurements. This ensures that you have a perfect fit when of your own personally designed wedding dress. The most flattering wedding dress possible. A bespoke, designer wedding dress, a one off. Please see Couture unpicked for a more detailed explanation. In the Couture Experience you find out more about the dress design from conception to the finished gown.
That State of Grace’s Showroom is based in Cheltenham Regency Spa Town in the Cotswolds surrounded by beautiful countryside. A gorgeous Cheltenham Bridal and Designer Eveningwear Boutique.
The beauty of couture is that we make the dress for you, whatever your size. A made to measure dress is specifically designed to enhance all your best features for maximum impact.
Yes. The showroom carries a number of styles to give you a good idea of the look and feel that you may want to achieve with your dress.
Yes, please do bring a friend or relative for a trusted second opinion. The Showroom features our Adornment Collection which has lots of lovely sparkle – beaded capes, headdresses, jewellery and embroidered coats.
Lucia only designs for her company, The State of Grace and only takes on a limited number of commissions each year so that she can work personally with each client on her exclusive bridal wear.
The dresses all vary in price depending on the style, hours of work and embellishment that is required. Dresses start from £2500 but typically are upwards from £4000 +.
Clients pay for dresses in separate instalments so that they can budget for their big day.
Ideally, the more time we have the better from a planning and fitting perspective. Typically the process can take up to a year but equally we can turn around something special around very quickly if needs must
Yes of course, we want you to feel relaxed and enjoy the process so we encourage a telephone consultation first.
No we don’t but we do ask our clients to have a pre-appointment telephone consultation with us.
In addition to the gorgeous designer wedding dresses, Lucia designs breath taking red carpet dresses for events, parties and functions. In addition she has developed The Adornment Collection which incorporates decorative capes, statement jewellery, embroidered jackets and head-dresses.
Many of our couture evening wear gowns can be adapted to create a stunning bridesmaid’s dress. The Adornment Collection has exquisite beaded capes which look stunning over a dress and can unify a look for the wedding party.
Our bespoke embroidery service can also add some bridal rock and roll to your party by customising our jackets for your wedding party with a significant phrase or an iconic image
Yes we do. Lucia works with skilled craftspeople who are adept at creating beautiful, soft lace and wonderful embroidery which means, like Meghan Markle, you can incorporate significant details into your wedding dress and wedding veil if you so wish.
We work with European and International clients. We will fit in consultations based around your itinerary and we can arrange fittings in London. Ask about our Jet Set Package.
No. But we defy you not to love our wedding gowns when you see them. We welcome commissions for couture wear for bridesmaids and Mothers of the Bride and Mother in Laws. Our Adornment Collection has fabulous finds and designs which encompass statement jewellery, heavenly headdresses, embroidered coats and bejewelled capes.
Couture Unpicked: The fashion industry throws these words around in brilliant, strange and misleading contexts so we’ve now ended up in a right old muddle. But there’s nothing too complicated about any of it.
Couture – is really the higher end of fashion, where clothes are sewn and designed for you, rather than being bought off the peg / ready to wear / pret a porter (these all mean the same!)
Made to Measure – is the taking an existing garment and making it to a client’s specific measurements. We see this a great deal in men’s shirts and suiting ordered online.
Bespoke – is when a garment or accessory is made specifically for you. From scratch. Often from a personal hand-drawing.
For a gown there would typically be a “toile” created from specific measurements. This is an early version of a finished garment made up in cheap material so that the design can be seen worn and perfected before the final fabric is cut and sewn for further fittings.
